The Merita Movement. Celebrating the talents, gifts, lives and stories of the continent. Joel Balimanya Artist designed this beautiful piece from recycled materials and a whole lot of love.
Merita is all about celebrating ‘Our Beloved Land’ from Africa across the globe. Connecting with creative individuals seeking to be a part of this new conversation. Empowering young people to look into the uniqueness of themselves and use their gifts, passions, abilities and creativity to rise up and speak out!
Continuously celebrating The Urban Indigenous Lifestyle!
Going through the Merita Movement footage has got me beaming today..
Life is uniquely designed for each of us.. To be fearlessly on this path feels as though my whole existence (a combination of character/personality, the abilities I’ve been given, circumstances I’ve never understood, and the people I’ve met along the way) all beautifully entwine into an intricately woven web of opportunity. Within this movement we encourage ourselves and the young people we come across to ‘do what you love’, and for me, that is a fusion of spirit lead creative expression and social dialogue…
After an interview I recently did, the interviewee pointed out how I have been given the opportunity to showcase exceptional individuals who in tern share their thoughts, visions and the things that THEY love to do. Through the making of this film I am being taught more and more about myself and the diversity of the people around me. What a blessing and an honour.
So very grateful for the work and the voices who have been willing to participate in the movement so far.. Celebrating Merita (Africa), our beloved people and our beloved land.
Asante,
Christine Michelle, Movement Initiator
Connecting with your unique self:
Celebrating the voices we have met and captured on our beloved journey, The Merita Movement met up with Ognian Petrov and Diego M Escalera of ’Wizards of Love’ in Tulum Mexico. Ognian graced us with a beautiful interview for our upcoming documentary, sharing with us a vision and hope for each of us.
Ognian tells us “What I dream I feel, what I feel I think, what I think I say, and what I say I do. Discovering your unique identity creates an internal centre of personal truth from your dreams to manifestation. When you start functioning that way, your dreams start to align and emerge on the never-ending quest of ‘this is what I am here to do in life’.”

“a very grave responsibility lies on the shoulders of us all, not only as Ghanaians, but also as members of the Convention People’s Party which, no matter what may be said by our detractors, remains right in front of the struggle for the total liberation of Africa and the union of the independent African states” Kwame Nkrumah.

A message from Movement Initiator and founder of Bavubuka Foundation, Silas Balabyekkubo aka #Babaluku,
“The B-Global Indigenous Hip Hop Gathering spirit kicked of with a great celebration of essential positive events seeking to advance the state of young African visionaries to show case there visions dreams and ideas. Bavubuka Allstarz Foundation and the Luga Flow movement were blessed to be a part of this historical mark which leads hip hop in Uganda to a direction of opening up those in power to acknowledge our contribution and impact to the nation and our generation. Much love and gratitude to TEDx Bukoto / Haji for facilitating such a state shifting event at the end of 2012 to lead us in 2013 already plugged into our passion and commitments. LUGA FLOW - we are the future voices of Uganda. RISE UP AND S.P.E.A.K!”
If you recall, in my bio I had mentioned many years of involvement with women and children in marginalized communities on the East border of Democratic Republic of Congo and, in context of present day complicity, claimed, “We are going to journey and introduce a new movement, starting point -…
